Island trips have always been one of our favourite travel destinations for me and my boyfriend. After having a wonderful time on Krabi Island, we decided to explore more islands in Thailand. It was when my friends told me about a beautiful island that is famously known as the Maldives of Thailand that lead us to choose Koh Lipe Thailand as our next place to visit.

Travle Guide to Koh Lipe Thailand
Koh Lipe is one of Thailand’s hidden gems located at the Tarutao Marine Park in Satun. It is one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand that offers white powder sandy beaches and turquoise crystal clear waters. Unlike Phuket island, Koh Lipe is still not fully spoiled with masses of tourists.
Best Time To Visit Koh Lipe
The best time to visit Koh Lipe will be from November until February where you can enjoy the perfect weather. However, if you prefer to explore the island with less tourists like we did, you can come during the rainy season from April to September. It is not the best weather time but indeed you can experience the island better.
How to get to Koh Lipe
– From Langkawi to Koh Lipe –
Koh Lipe is small island therefore there is no airport at that island. Since we are staying in Malaysia, it is not hard to get to Koh Lipe. During high season (November – May), there will be a direct boat to Koh Lipe from Langkawi Island that takes around 2 hours.
During low season (June to October ), the boat does not operate due to monsoon but there is still a way to get there via Pak Bara which takes longer. If you wish to reach to Koh Lipe at the same day, please make sure to take the earliest ferry schedule at 9 am from Kuah jetty at Langkawi to Thammalang pier, Satun that takes around 1 and a half hour journey so you will reach Satun by 9.30 am (Thailand time). You can check the schedule and book the ticket online here. Then take a minivan or taxi to Pak Bara pier that takes around an hour and lastly an hour and a half speedboat journey from Pak Bara will take you to wonderful Koh Lipe.
Note : Upon the arrival at Satun, there will be guides who offer you a service that includes transport to Pak Bara and ferry tickets to Koh Lipe. I can confirm they are safe to use. We booked the transport arrangement and the return way as well that cost 200 baht/person.
– From Bangkok to Koh Lipe –
The easiest way to get to Koh Lipe from Bangkok is flying to Hat Yai airport. From Hat Yai you can take a bus to Pak Bara which takes around 2 hours. Then take a speedboat from Pak Bara to Koh Lipe.
Where to Stay in Koh Lipe Thailand
There are 3 main beach areas at Koh Lipe – Pattaya Beach, Sunrise Beach and Sunset Beach. I personally prefer to stay at Sunrise Beach or Sunset Beach because the beaches are more beautiful, wider and quieter compared to Pattaya Beach while Pattaya Beach is noisier and full of boats. However, staying at Pattaya Beach will be more convenient in terms of exploring the island due to the location that is situated at the end of walking street.
Koh Lipe Resorts
During my Koh Lipe trip, we stayed at 2 different resorts – The Cliff Lipe resort and The Mountain Resort Lipe. Both resorts are very nice and located at Sunset Beach. The Cliff Lipe resort gives you a romantic ambiance which is suitable for couples who want to celebrate their moment. Check out my full story and review of The Cliff Lipe here. Whereas The Mountain Resort Lipe gives you the beach relaxing atmosphere. Try the beachfront bungalow which is the best spot to enjoy the beach view. I totally recommended these 2 resorts if you are looking for great places to stay in Koh Lipe as both will let you experience a million-dollar view.
The Mountain Resort Lipe :

My other suggestion of Koh Lipe accommodation :
Pattaya Beach
Sunrise Beach
Sunset Beach
Note : If you are staying at a nice resort in Koh Lipe, you will most likely be picked up by the resort staff upon your arrival at the Island. It feels so privileged!
Things to do in Koh Lipe
The short trip to Koh Lipe was mainly to celebrate our anniversary, therefore we mostly just chilled out and spent time together for relaxing during that trip.
Relax on the beach
One thing that I will always do whenever I am going to an island is relaxing on the beach. It was just nice to sit on the beach, let your feet touch the sand, pamper yourself with a glass of fresh juice and have a book to read or merely just let the view blow your mind. It is something I cannot do in my usual time because I am living in a city so it is an absolutely perfect thing to do seeing that Koh Lipe has beautiful beaches with fine white sand and calm turquoise water.
Snorkeling Trip
One of the best activities to do when you are on the beautiful island is taking a snorkeling trip. I regret that I did not do snorkeling much when I was at Koh Lipe because apparently if you go to the deeper part of the Andaman sea around Koh Lipe, you will see a lot of stunning marine life such as coral, reefs, starfish, turtle and many kinds of unique and beautiful fishes.
If you stay in a nice resort on Koh Lipe, you can rent snorkeling equipment without a charge and use it anytime. It is another good reason why you should choose to stay in a nice resort on Koh Lipe.
Water Activities
If you are into sea activities, you can always find water activities around Koh Lipe. There are a lot of tours at Walking Street that provide a deal for fun water activities such as scuba diving and kayaking. If you stay at The Cliff Lipe resort, they do provide a kayak for free where you can do kayaking at their private beach.
Explore Walking Street
The famous place in town at Koh Lipe will be Walking Street, it can be accessed through Pattaya Beach. All non-sea activities can be found at Walking Street such as restaurants, convenience stores, guest houses, massage services, tour services and shops at Walking Street.
Nightlife in Koh Lipe is not as happening as in Phuket or Pattaya. This island is mainly for people who are looking for a relaxing holiday however, if you are really into drinking or a little partying, there are a few bars at Walking Street that can be a good spot for drinking such as OMG sports bar, etc.
Playing with Furry Friends
One thing I noticed about Koh Lipe was this island is full of lots of cats and dogs. I found that the population of dogs are more than cats on the island as I started counting the day I arrived. If you stayed at a beachfront bungalow like I did at Mountain beach resort, you will be likely to get a lot of guests waiting for you at the balcony. It is definitely a good thing for me and my boyfriend as we both love to play with those cute furry friends.

Madame Yoo Hoo
I am sure everyone who ever came to Koh Lipe before will know about Madame Yoo Hoo. Everytime we passed this place, we saw the owner lady shouting “Pancake Pancake Yooo Hooo”. It made a good sense why this shop stall was named as Madame Yoo Hoo.
Madame Yoo Hoo is a place if you are seeking the best Thai pancake in town. It is not hard to find this place as it located in the center of Walking Street. Walking Street in Koh Lipe is not big so you will eventually pass by this place when you explore.
Scary Part I Experienced in Koh Lipe
One of the things that scared me once I was on Koh Lipe was the transportation journey around the area. The transportation used on Koh Lipe are cars and motorbikes with the extra passenger seat. The road at Koh Lipe was not smooth. A lot of holes made us get thrown around during the ride. Let me know if you feel the same thing as me 😀

Very nice post! Koh Lipe is the only one island in Thailand I love because of the turquoise water. Additionally, it is easy to connect to Langkawi for shopping duty free goods. Anw, thanks for you post.
Elvira
Thank you for reading my post 🙂 I agree with you about the turquoise water and it is less touristy as less compare to other beaches in Thailand 😀
