Phi Phi Islands Day Trip from Phuket : Things To Do and See

Few places in the world can offer the same allure as Thailand and as I would find out on my visit to the land of smiles, even less experiences can compare with a trip to the Phi Phi Islands.

I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it’s not some place you can look for. Because it’s not where you go. It’s how you feel for a moment in your life when you’re a part of something. And if you find that moment… It lasts forever.” The Beach

Standing alone in the Krabi province of Thailand, Phi Phi is an awe inspiring destination which delights new arrivals with a sublime mix of white powdered beaches and fun activities. It is here, where you can find some of the world’s most enticing tropical beaches and lagoons next to immense rock formations, turquoise waters and colorful coral.

Trip to the Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands are a short boat ride from Phuket and just one hour after being picked up at my hotel, we had already checked in at the Royal Marina, boarded our boat and arrived in this magical paradise. Shimmering in the morning sun, the pristine waters beneath were perfect for our first opportunity to snorkel amongst the marine life and coral. We also had time to enjoy the fine sands on Monkey Beach (Tong Kasem) and marvel at the stunning scenery around Nui Bay which is better known to tourists as Camel Rock.

Maya Bay and “The Beach”

One of the true highlights of my trip to the Phi Phi Islands was Maya Bay, an isolated paradise made famous by the movie “The Beach”. Although a lot busier with tourists than when Leonardo DiCaprio first arrived to start shooting these iconic scenes, the majestic sight of Maya Bay was just so easy to appreciate and for me, it was worthy of the trip to the Phi Phi Islands alone.

Again, there was plenty of time for snorkeling or relaxing and those a little more adventurous, the Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon and the nearby hidden cove at Loh Samah Bay were waiting to be explored.

Phi Phi Don is the largest island in Phi Phi and it was here that we enjoyed a delicious lunch in a beachfront restaurant. For anyone who has taken a trip to Thailand before, you can appreciate exactly why the local cuisine is famous all over the world and when it comes to local delicacies, the Phi Phi Islands are one of the best places to sample some local seafood.

Winding down on Khai Nai Island

Having enjoyed some lunch, the last stop on our trip to the Phi Phi Islands was another hidden gem called Khai Island. Also known as Ao Phang Nga National Park, this isolated landmass was the perfect way to wind down after a day exploring the islands and a unique chance to feed hungry fish in the shallow waters or indulge in an ice cream on a reclining deck chair, beneath the kind shade of an umbrella.

My Thoughts

Although it is now a hugely popular destination for backpackers and tourists in Thailand; my trip to the Phi Phi Islands was an unforgettable experience and absolutely worth the effort. In fact, it even made me think back to the famous quote from Leonardo di Caprio in “The Beach” when he said it’s not where you go but rather how you feel for a moment in your life and I can honestly say that this trip to the Phi Phi Islands truly made me feel a part of this beautiful paradise.

Oooh the Phi Phi Islands look gorgeous! I love how there are just giant rocks in the way, with really cool greenery grown on them. Glad you had a great time!

What a lovely trip! Great photographs.
I’ve only seen 1/2 of The Beach because I watched it on a plane and the plane landed before I got to see the end. But I liked what I saw.
Thailand looks like an amazing country. Maybe while I’m in Hong Kong I can make a trip over there.
